Brief history

This designer dog or hybrid has parents whose combination of genetic material produced the beauty that is the Cockalier. The breed is a crossbreed between a purebred Cocker Spaniel and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

The Cockalier hails from the United States and its appearance is dependent on which parent which contributes the most genetic material. Some could be slim and tall while others could come off as chubby and short. This small to medium dog breed is hypoallergenic and has some fantastic characters which humans cannot get enough of.

This dog breed has a pretty endearing personality. They are calm and do not display aggression unless triggered. However, Cockaliers do bark but not as often as other dog breeds. They are smart, easy to please, and do require lots of attention.

Cockaliers can portray traits of separation anxiety when left alone for long periods hence they’re probably not the best choice for owners who work late and those who travel a lot. When left unattended their potential for mouthiness comes to play as they can nibble on household items or even go hunting. This breed is sweet, friendly, playful and well suited for families, singles, and couples.

Cockaliers thrive across diverse environments and settings. Their fur coat makes them compatible with both hot and cold weather environments and they adapt really well to apartment living.

Cockaliers are playful breeds hence if you live in a house with a yard at the back you’re better off fencing around it to prevent your furry friends from wandering off in search of adventure. This breed needs an environment with proximity to the park for exercise purposes. They love open spaces and can still function within the household.

Cockaliers are very active dogs and they have a ton of energy this is why they require a lot of physical and mental stimulation in the form of dog sports, tricks and games. You’ll need some dog toys if you’re training them but any outdoor activities including swimming will keep them energized and exercised.

Going for walks, runs or play dates with other dogs will keep them socialized with their environment and the elements in it as well. However, you can take off their leash when they’re in a controlled space during these activities.

Cockaliers have a beautiful coat but unfortunately, they tangle easily hence to keep them smooth you’ll need to practice frequent brushing – a few times a week is enough. Also, this breed gets all its warmth and moisture from its coat hence you’ll want to relax on the baths unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Shedding in Cockaliers is somewhat moderate, especially during warm seasons. While brushing and bathing the cockalier, do examine parts of his body like the ears, paws, and skin for traces of infections. Lastly, trim their nails once or twice a month. This should be done carefully to prevent bleeding.

Our Cockalier puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. USDA licensed commercial breeders account for less than 20% of all breeders in the country.

The unregulated breeders who are selling outside of the USDA regulations and without a license are what we consider to be “Puppy Mills.” We are committed to offering Cockalier puppies who will grow up to become important members of your family. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell.
